Plugins and MCP

Connect ChatGPT, Codex and other MCP clients through OAuth. The Plugin bundle is a preview.

Connect over MCP

Instoryview's remote MCP endpoint:

MCP endpoint
https://instoryview.com/mcp
  1. In your client's connector or MCP settings, add the URL above and choose OAuth.
  2. Sign in on Instoryview's own authorization page and review the requested permissions.

The default data:read permission covers your readable account details, follower and following members, and detected changes. Online queries also need the optional data:fetch permission and a per-request spending cap: tick Also allow online queries on the authorization page if the assistant should run them, because many clients cannot ask for more permission later (reconnect to change it). All connections share the daily API budget in Developer settings.

OAuth requires a compatible host and workspace policy. Installing a bundle and connecting your account are separate steps.

OAuth accepts approved callback destinations. Built-in destinations cover official callbacks used by ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, VS Code and Devin, plus native clients' local loopback callbacks. Other hosted clients need their exact callback reviewed and approved by Instoryview before connecting; contact support if registration is refused. The client chooses its displayed name, so review the callback destination and permissions on the authorization page.

Never send your Key or password in a chat.

Plugin preview

The Plugin is a preview. It is not yet listed in the public Plugin Directory, and this page does not represent a completed store review.

The Plugin preview repository is for a host that supports local Plugin installation. It includes the same Instoryview Skill and the remote MCP configuration.

  1. Clone the repository.

  2. Register its marketplace root:

    Terminal
    git clone https://github.com/instoryview/chatgpt-plugin
    codex plugin marketplace add ./chatgpt-plugin
  3. In the Codex desktop Plugins browser, choose Instoryview Preview, install it and connect through OAuth.

Refresh or restart if necessary; support depends on your client and workspace policy. If your host cannot import the bundle, use its remote MCP setup, or the standalone Skill with the CLI.

To update the Plugin, pull the latest repository, run codex plugin add instoryview@instoryview-preview again and restart the app. To use ChatGPT without a local marketplace, open its Plugins page, choose Add custom MCP server, enter the MCP URL above and pick OAuth. That tests the connection only; it does not install the Plugin. Uninstalling the Plugin does not revoke an OAuth grant: disconnect it in Developer settings.

Ask naturally

  • “Which accounts am I tracking?”
  • “Show alice's last available followers.”
  • “What changes did you detect for alice in the last seven days?”
  • “Query bob's public followers online, at most 2 credits.”

Reading existing data never starts a new scan, and fresh queries need an explicit scope and budget. The assistant explains timestamps, costs and partial coverage instead of claiming a complete list.

MCP tools

ToolWhat it does
list_trackingReads your tracked accounts.
get_accountReads an account's existing profile and totals.
list_followersReads an available follower list.
list_followingReads an available following list.
get_account_changesReads detected changes.
query_public_accountRuns an online query with an explicit budget (a first list page needs maxCredits of at least 2). Requires an idempotencyKey; keep it for recovery.

Revoke access

Revoke an Instoryview connection in Developer settings. Removing a Plugin from a host does not necessarily revoke its separately authorized connection. A revoked or invalid token cannot recover private data or continue pagination.
