Instoryview Skill

Let a compatible assistant use your signed-in CLI or connected MCP tools.

Install

Run this once. It needs Node.js 20 or later and no account:

Terminal
npx skills add instoryview/skill

That command installs the Skill from the public GitHub repository into the assistants it finds on your machine (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and others). If you already use the Instoryview CLI, instoryview skill install (CLI 0.2.1 or later) installs the same Skill without GitHub. It writes to one of these locations:

ScopePath
Your user skills~/.agents/skills/instoryview (add --target claude for ~/.claude/skills/instoryview)
One project.agents/skills/instoryview (add --project)

instoryview skill install refuses to overwrite an existing copy; compare it with yours, then add --force. Refresh or restart your Skill host if needed, and confirm that Instoryview appears in its Skill list. The Skill contains no credentials and does not install the CLI.

Connect your account

For local terminal access, install the CLI and run instoryview auth login. A host that already has an authenticated Instoryview MCP connection can use those tools instead.

Never paste your Key into a conversation or into SKILL.md.

Ask a question

In a Codex conversation, type $instoryview and ask, for example:

  • “List my tracked accounts.”
  • “Show alice's last available followers.”

$instoryview is conversation text, not a shell command.

The Skill reads existing data by default. To allow an online query, name the target, the list type and a budget, for example: “Query bob's public followers online, at most 2 credits.” Every further paid page needs its own explicit request.

How answers are presented

The Skill says when the data was observed, where it came from and whether it is partial. It keeps profile totals, observed list members and detected changes apart, and missing data never silently becomes a paid query.

Update or remove

Install a newer release to update. Removing the Skill folder does not revoke a Key or disconnect an MCP grant; manage both in Developer settings.
